Overview
Carbon steel plates are one of the most widely used structural materials in the world, valued for their excellent strength-to-weight ratio, weldability, machinability, and cost-effectiveness. Produced by rolling carbon steel into flat, rectangular slabs of varying thickness, these plates serve as foundational components across construction, manufacturing, shipbuilding, energy, and heavy industry.
Production Process
The manufacturing of carbon steel plates begins with the melting of iron ore and scrap steel in a basic oxygen furnace (BOF) or electric arc furnace (EAF), where precise amounts of carbon and alloying elements are introduced to achieve the desired chemical composition. The molten steel is then continuously cast into slabs, which are reheated and passed through a series of hot rolling mills to reduce thickness and refine grain structure. For applications demanding tighter tolerances and superior surface finish, cold rolling may follow.
After rolling, plates undergo controlled cooling and, where specified, heat treatment processes such as normalizing, annealing, or quenching and tempering to enhance mechanical properties. Each plate is inspected through ultrasonic testing, tensile testing, and impact testing to ensure compliance with international standards including ASTM, EN, JIS, and GB. Mill test certificates (MTC) are issued with every shipment to guarantee traceability and quality assurance.
